SOFTBALL ADVANCES TO SAA POD CHAMPIONSHIP

Birmingham-Southern played the Rhodes Lynx for Game 2 of the Birmingham Pod in the SAA Tournament.

The Panthers struck first in the top of the second, starting with an Olivia Trout walk and Natalie Snow single. With two Panthers on, Leah Wood smoked an opposite field double to score Trout and Snow.

With a 2 run lead, BSC pitcher Natalie Snow was able to hold the Lynx at bay until the next scoring opportunity for BSC.

In the top of the fourth, Leah Wood earned 2-for-2 status with a lead off single. Jaley Davis executed a SAC bunt to move Wood into scoring position. Katie Hart singled and stole second. With Panthers on, Emma Jolley delivered an RBI single down the left field line to score two more runs.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lynx found their first success on the scoreboard. A walk and hit by pitch followed by a single made the game 4-2.

In the visitors half of the final inning, BSC'S timely hitting picked up several insurance runs. Bella Furgason and Maile White got things started with back-to-back walks. Natalie Snow singled to load up the bases for Leah Wood. Leah Wood earned her third RBI and hit of the match up with a single to left field, giving BSC the 5-2 advantage. Jaley Davis executed an RBI ground ball to score White. Kaite Hart picked up her first RBI of the day with an infield single to score Snow.

Going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Natalie Snow secured the win in the circle with a 3-up-3-down inning.

BSC will play in the Birmingham pod championship on Sunday, April 27th at noon.
