ATLANTA, Ga. - The Southern Athletic Association announced the All-SAA selections for men's lacrosse on Monday. Head Coach
Carson Sterling earned Coach of the Year while
Cade Marino was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Josh Tamarkin was the Newcomer of the Year recipient as
Cameron Herd,
Kyle Winter, and
Nathan Pepe earned First Team selections.
Carson Sterling was named SAA Coach of the Year in his first season in charge of the Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team. Sterling led 'Southern to their best start in program history with a 6-0 beginning to his campaign. The team also went on the road and defeated Rhodes 12-6 in the SAA Tournament Quarterfinals and had four players earn First Team All-SAA honors.
Cade Marino earned First Team All-SAA for the third consecutive season in addition to his Defensive Player of the Year honor. The Gallatin, Tennessee native led the conference in caused turnovers with 39 and was top ten in ground balls per game with 3.53. Marino started all 15 games for the Panthers and was the anchor for the BSC defense that was second in the SAA in goals allowed.
Josh Tamarkin was voted as SAA Newcomer of the Year for his excellent freshman campaign. The Alpharetta, Georgia native started all but one game for the Panthers and finished seventh in the SAA in goals with 34. He also tallied eight assists, caused nine turnovers, and collected 17 ground balls in a BSC attack that finished second in the SAA in goals per game.
Cameron Herd was selected as a First Team All-SAA attacker for the second straight season. The Peachtree City, Georgia native started all 15 games for the Panthers and became the program's all-time top scorer with 169 goals and the all-time points leader with 281. The senior finished the season first in the SAA in points with 80, first in assists with 34, and second in goals with 46.
Kyle Winter was named First Team All-SAA for the first time in his career after his Honorable Mention selection last season. The Hendersonville, Tennessee native started 13 games for the Panthers and had 28 goals and 10 assists as a midfielder for BSC. He also had 34 ground balls and caused seven turnovers as the link in the middle for the Panthers.
Nathan Pepe earned First Team-All SAA for the first time in his BSC career. The Tampa, Florida native started every game for the Panthers in goal and allowed only 10.04 goals per game for sixth-lowest in the conference. He led the conference in save percentage with .598 and had nine games with at least 15 saves.
