HERD BREAKS ASSIST RECORD, TAMARKIN TIES GOALS RECORD IN WIN AT OGLETHORPE

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team won their second straight conference game with a dominant 21-9 win over Oglethorpe on the road. Senior Cameron Herd broke the BSC single-game assists record while freshman Josh Tamarkin recorded a program record-tying eight goals on the night.

How it happened
Coming off their first conference win over Hendrix, BSC continued their momentum in Atlanta. Josh Tamarkin got the scoring started with the opener 4:07 into the game. The Panthers then continued to pour it on with five more unanswered goals in the opening quarter. Cameron Herd and Joey Amatulli recorded two goals a piece in the opening 15 minutes.

The Stormy Petrels got on the board early inside the first minute of the second period, but back-to-back Joey Amatulli goals less than a minute apart put the Panthers up 8-1. Oglethorpe won the next five minutes 3-1, but two Kyle Winter goals followed by another from Josh Tamarkin gave BSC a 12-4 lead heading into the break.

Coming out of the half, Kyle Winter scored his fourth goal of the game to give BSC their largest lead of the night, but Oglethorpe quickly answered with two straight. However, the run did not last long as Josh Tamarkin fired in two more followed by Patton Hunter's first of the night to put BSC up double digits at 16-6. The Stormy Petrels added in two more, but Raymond Fracchia scored with 10 seconds remaining in the third period to put BSC up 17-8 heading into the final 15 minutes.

With a huge lead, the Panthers did not let up as three straight goals in the opening five minutes of the final period all but clinched the win on the night. Cameron Herd assisted all three goals in the run to break the BSC single-game assists record. Oglethorpe stopped the 4-0 BSC run with a goal with 6:14 remaining, but Josh Tamarkin scored his record-tying eighth goal with 2:42 to go to cap off a big SAA win in Atlanta, 21-9.
