Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

BSC COMES UP SHORT AT #14 SEWANEE

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Birmingham-Southern women's tennis team competed against a top 15 opponent in Sewanee on Saturday with BSC falling to the #14 team in the country.

The Tigers capitalized on all three doubles matches, but #1 duo Phoebe Shapard/Blakely Valdez fought hard with three games won on their opponent, the most of any Panther pair. However, Sewanee managed to reach eight games in all three matches to take a 3-0 lead heading into singles matches.

The Panthers did not have their day in singles, but #5 Anna Beth Giles played excellent tennis. The senior got off to a great start with a 6-4 in the first set before falling 6-3 in the second. The tiebreaker was a tight back-and-forth match, but Giles ultimately came up just short with a 10-7 defeat. Anna Cate Weeks grabbed four games in her opening set in the #6 position however the Tigers closed out singles with six wins.
