DANVILLE, Ky. - The Birmingham-Southern women's tennis team looked to bounce back on Sunday but fell to Centre on the road.
The Colonels won the first doubles match in the No. 2 position, but the #1 and #3 matches were a close battle. #1 duo
Blakely Valdez and
Phoebe Shapard competed until the end but were defeated eight points to five. Centre looked to complete the sweep in doubles, but No. 3 pair
Anna Cate Weeks and
Anna Marie Bentley had other ideas. The match came down to the wire, but the Panthers capitalized late with a close 8-6 victory to head into singles with a point.
After winning her doubles match,
Anna Cate Weeks dominated in singles. In the No. 6 position, she won both sets 6-1 to earn a point for the Panthers. No. 4
Anna Beth Giles won her first set 6-1 but then dropped set two 6-3. The junior went into the tiebreak, but came out on the wrong end. Centre went on to win the remaining four matches to earn the SAA win at home.
