DANVILLE, Ky. - After a tough match on Saturday, the Birmingham-Southern men's tennis team bounced back with a 6-3 win over Centre to advance to 2-1 in SAA play.
The doubles matches between the Panthers and Colonels produced the most exciting finishes of the season. #2 duo
Hallet Green and
Sam Tolbert took care of business 8-4 to earn the first doubles point for BSC, but the No. 1 and No. 3 matches headed to tiebreakers. In the No. 1 match,
Tanner DeBardelaben and
Tom Smith came down to the wire but pulled away late to win the tiebreaker 7-4. Just like the No. 1 match, No. 3 duo
Ryan King and
Eli Ingleson defeated their opponents 7-4 in the tiebreaker. Despite two extremely close matches, the Panthers headed into singles up three after the sweep.
With the three-point lead, BSC needed just two singles wins to clinch the win on the day. In the No. 5 position,
Tanner DeBardelaben cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win to put BSC within a point. No. 2
Sam Tolbert clinched the team win on the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win while No. 4
Ryan King also won his match 6-4, 6-3 to give the Panthers six points. At the conclusion of singles, 'Southern traveled back to Birmingham with a 6-3 win over Centre.
