Game 1: Berry found momentum quickly in the top of the first inning, playing 3 runs off of 3 hits and a Panther error. The scoreboard was quiet until the bottom of the fourth inning. BSC sophomore
Katie Hart got things started with a single to the left side and a stolen base.
Morgan McGuire followed with a another single to score Hart and put BSC on the board. McGuire advanced to third on the throw, quickly putting herself in scoring position. Bella Furgason delivered an RBI ground ball to score McGuire and make it a 1 run game. Berry led 3-2 until the sixth inning.
Berry found a more success in the box in the the final two frames of the game, plating four more runs off five hits.
Birmingham-Southern continued to fight until their final out, adding another 2 runs to the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh. Unfortunately, the Panthers were unable to finish the comeback effort, resulting in a Game 1 loss of 7-5.
Game 2: The second game of the double-header started in similar fashion, with Berry striking a run in the top of the first. BSC quickly responded with three hits and a run in the bottom of the second.
In the bottom of the third,
Katie Hart singled and
Emma Jolley reached on an error to put two Panthers in scoring position. Bella Furgason picked up another RBI with an infield single to score Hart and give the Panthers the lead. Berry quickly responded in the next frame, tying the game at 2-2.
The back and forth momentum continued into the bottom of the fourth with BSC taking their second lead of the match up.
Olivia Trout singled and
Katie Hart tripled to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Panthers.
The Vikings offense came alive in the fifth and sixth innings, tallying 15 runs off 12 hits and a 17-3 advantage. BSC was unable to return from the 14 run deficit, resulting in a Game 2 loss.
Game 3: The Vikings found success in the first inning, plating one run off one hit. Birmingham-Southern quickly responded an took the lead with a 2 run inning.
Katie Hart and
Emma Jolley had back-to-back singles and Moe McGuire executed a SAC bunt to put two runners in scoring position. Bella Furgason delivered an RBI single through the left side to tie the game.
Emma Jolley scored on a passed ball to give BSC a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the first.
Berry strung together four hits to score three runs in the top of the third, making the score 4-2 Vikings.
The scoreboard was quiet for both teams through four innings as both pitching staffs found success on the mound. Berry added one insurance run in the top of the seventh, making the score 5-2.
The Panthers were unable to rally for the three run deficit, resulting in a Game 3 loss of 5-2.
