WEBSTER HITS WALK-OFF OUT OF THE PARK TO KEEP BSC ALIVE

EASTLAKE, OH. - Facing elimination down 7-4 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, the Birmingham-Southern baseball team came back and walked it off in the bottom of the ninth on Jackson Webster's second homer of the game.

Facing elimination, the Panthers came out swinging against the Yellow Jackets. In the bottom of the first, Andrew Dutton reached base after an appeal after initially being called out at first. In the next at bat, Jackson Webster crushed a two-run homer to left center field off the Classic Auto Group sign in left center field. Two batters later, Charlie Banks made the score 3-0 after also hitting the advertisement in left center.

The BSC crowd was electric thanks to BSC's home run hitting and Josh Leerssen's excellent start on the mound. Neither team scored in the second inning, but Charlie Banks stayed hot in the third inning with a roped RBI double to left center to give the Panthers four runs.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Randolph-Macon got going in the fifth. After a two-out double, the Yellow Jackets followed up with a triple to cut the deficit to three. A single then brought home their second run to make the game 4-2 after four and a half innings played.

The next one and a half innings were scoreless, and in the top of the seventh, the Yellow Jackets rallied with two outs once again. A single through the right side and an infield single off the end of the bat brought two runners home to tie the game, 4-4.

The Panthers couldn't answer in the bottom of the seventh, and Randolph-Macon kept their momentum going. In the top of the eighth, the Yellow Jackets took their first lead of the night on an RBI single to center field followed by two wild pitches to stretch their lead to 7-4.

With their backs against the wall, BSC answered. After singles from Ian Hancock and Charlie Banks, Jakob Zito tripled to left center field to bring the Panthers within one. Two batters later, Grant Morgan came into the game to pinch hit... and delivered. The sophomore singled through the left side to bring Ty Truett home and tie the game at seven heading into the ninth.

Charlie Horne came in relief and kept the Yellow Jackets scoreless to give BSC a chance to walk it off. Andrew Dutton started the bottom of the ninth with a walk giving way to Jackson Webster at the plate with no outs. With an 0-2 count, Webster demolished the third pitch he saw over the advertising board and out of Classic Park to give the Panthers a 9-7 win and another game on Sunday.
