Sarah Cespedes

Sarah Cespedes enters her first season as the assistant softball coach of the Birmingham-Southern softball team. 

Cespedes comes to BSC from the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she played softball for five years. While at UAB Cespedes pitched 401.2 innings with a 3.33 career ERA. She made 132 appearances, pitching against softball powerhouse teams Alabama, Florida, and Oklahoma. She recorded 294 strikeouts during her five year stint, including 87 her senior year. 
She was a recipient of the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. She graduated with a bachelors degree in Elementary Education and is on path to finish her masters degree this fall. 

Cespedes has most recently, coached for the travel ball team Firecrackers AL-Matthews 14U and 18U teams.

Before her time as a Division 1 softball player, Cespedes led Chelsea High School to a 6A State Championship. She was named the 6A state MVP, Sportz Blitz Player of the Week, and Shelby County Player of the Year. In 2017 she was named to the 6A State Second Team, Birmingham All-Region Softball Team, and to the All-County First Team. 

Cespedes has two brothers Luke and Jake. Jake played soccer at Faulkner University from 2015-2018.
