Box Score ROME, Ga.—In its fifth overtime game this season, the Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team defeated Berry, 3-2, Sunday afternoon in Rome, Ga.
BSC moved to 9-2-2 overall and picked up its first conference win, moving to 1-2-1 in the Southern Athletic Association. Berry fell to 4-5-2 overall and 1-2 in the SAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first half, the Panthers got on the board in the 59th minute on a goal from junior Spencer Nichols.
- The Vikings tied it up less than 10 minutes later, and then pulled ahead 2-1 in the 86th minute.
- Junior Dallas Coyne scored the equalizer a little over a minute later, a free kick from 19 yards out, to send the game to overtime.
- 2:47 into the first extra period, sophomore Adam Clausen headed the ball in off a Coyne corner kick to score the game-winner.
NOTABLE
- Berry out-shot BSC 22-11, 10-6 on-goal.
- Coyne led the Panthers with three shots.
- Junior goalkeeper Marvin Castellanos recorded eight saves in 92:47 of play.
- BSC took six corner kicks, five more than Berry.
UP NEXT
- The Panthers are at home next weekend, Homecoming 2015, for the final home stand of the regular season, taking on Centre on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Sewanee on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
- Sunday will be Senior Day as well as Head Coach Preston Goldfarb's last home game before retiring after the end of the season.
