BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Scoring the go-ahead goal with six seconds left in the game, the Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team won its eighth straight game on Tuesday, defeating Carthage College 5-4 on Battle Field at Krulak Stadium.

The Panthers moved to 9-1, while the Red Men fell to 2-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Both teams put up a strong defensive effort throughout the game, and Carthage was the only team to score in the first quarter with a single goal at the 5:18 mark.
• The Red Men pulled ahead 2-0 early in the second quarter before the Panthers tied things up with goals from junior Thomas Grove and freshman Greg Wallace.
• Carthage responded with two more goals to pull ahead 4-2, but a goal from freshman Tanner Schneider late in the second period cut it to 4-3 before the half.
• BSC tied it up 30 seconds into the third quarter when sophomore Justin Dennis scored off a Grove assist.
• The tie stood through the rest of the quarter and most of the fourth quarter as well before the game-winner came with 5.9 seconds left on the clock as freshman Davis Thompson scored off an assist from sophomore Peyton Heard.

NOTABLE

• Five different Panthers each scored a single goal apiece.
• Heard led with four ground balls.
• Junior goalie Hank Harris, who was named Southern Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season yesterday, recorded 11 saves in 60 minutes of play.
• Tanner Schneider has now scored at least one goal in every game of this college career thus far; he and his brother, junior McHale Schneider, lead the team with 20 goals apiece.
