BSC falls to Sewanee in regular season home finale, 13-5

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team dropped its second straight game on Sunday, losing to Sewanee, 13-5, in the regular season home finale on Battle Field at Krulak Stadium.

The Panthers fell to 9-3 overall and 2-2 in the Southern Athletic Association, while the Tigers moved to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in the SAA, now at the top of the league standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a lightning delay that delayed the game by 30 minutes, Sewanee scored three goals in the first quarter and held BSC scoreless, but the Panthers came back and out-scored the Tigers 3-2 in the second quarter for a 5-3 score at the half.
  • The Tigers opened the third quarter with three straight goals to pull ahead 8-3, but BSC would score twice after that, cutting it to 8-5, for the Panthers' final goals of the game.
  • Sewanee added one more before the end of the third quarter to pull ahead 9-5, and then found the back of the net four times in the fourth quarter.

NOTABLE

  • Junior McHale Schneider was BSC's leading scorer with two goals, while sophomore David Arnold and freshman Tanner Schneider had a goal and an assist apiece.
  • Sophomore Peyton Heard led with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
  • Junior goalie Hank Harris recorded nine saves in 60 minutes of action.

UP NEXT

  • BSC is on the road for its next three games, beginning with a trip to Conway, Ark., next weekend to face Hendrix on Saturday, April 2, at 4 p.m. CDT.
