Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team will get a chance to defend its tournament title Sunday after defeating Oglethorpe University 72-56 in the semifinals of the 2017 Southern Athletic Association Tournament. BSC (17-10) shot 66.7 percent from the floor in the fourth quarter to secure its second consecutive trip to the championship game.
Four Panthers finished in double-figures in the win, led by Camillia Carter (Hueytown, Ala./Hueytown HS). She earned a game-high 19 points and went 8-for-10 at the free throw line. Emilee Olsen (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) picked up another double-double. She finished with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Jothani Dixon (Tuscumbia, Ala./Deshler HS) and Laura Van Peursem (Huntsville, Ala./Randolph HS) earned 16 and 14 points, respectively.
The Panthers will face third seeded Hendrix College tomorrow at 2 p.m. after the Warriors upset #2 seed Millsaps College in the second semifinal Saturday night 64-53. BSC split with Hendrix during the regular season. They won on the road 54-53 back on January 8 and then lost at home 73-63 earlier this month.
