NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Sophomore Jamal Watkins (Hampton, Ga./Dodge City CC) earned his first national title Saturday at the 2017 NCAA Indoor National Championships.  Watkins crossed in 6.76 seconds to claim first place, beating the runner-up by 0.06 seconds.

The time tied his previous season record and the facility record he broke in the prelims Friday afternoon.  Watkins is now the second Panther in program history to win an indoor title, and third to win a national championship. 

He joins the ranks of Tiarra Goode, who won the 60 indoor and 100 hurdles outdoor titles in 2012, and Robert Willett, who won the 800 outdoor title in 2013.
