Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team lost its first game on Saturday, falling to Washington College 16-7.
The Panthers opened up the scoring with a Davis Thompson (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes HS) goal with 6:43 to go in the first period. The Shoremen responded with four unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead with 13:18 left before halftime.
Thompson got his second goal of the game with 11:20 to go in the second period to cut Washington College's lead to two goals, but after being outscored 3-1 in the final 11 minutes of the half, the Panthers went into the break down 7-3.
BSC got the scoring started in the second half, as well. Senior Justin Dennis (Buford, Ga./McCallie School) scored a goal at the 13:58 mark in the third period, cutting the Shoremen lead to three goals. Much like the first half, however, the home team responded with a big run to create distance. The Shoremen outscored the Panthers 9-3 to close out the game and take the final 16-7 lead.
Thompson and sophomore Taylor Carson (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook HS) led the Panthers with two goals each. Matt Quill (Fort Mill, S.C./Coker College) and Keenan Hudsmith (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood HS) had seven and five ground balls, respectively. And Quill finished the game with 18 saves in goal.
Birmingham-Southern will remain on the road for its next game against Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas on Friday, Feb. 23.
