Box Score GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team defeated Southwestern University 20-14 on Friday, improving to 2-1 on the season.
Southwestern drew the first blow in the game, but the Panthers recovered, taking the lead late in the first period thanks to a Davis Thompson (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes HS) goal.
Thompson's goal gave BSC a 4-3 lead heading into the second period, and the Panthers would spend the next 45 minutes expanding it.
Thompson and freshman Carson Watkins (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) led the Panthers on offense with five goals each. Thompson also led the team in ground balls with eight.
Goalie Matt Quill (Fort Mills, S.C./Coker College) played all 60 minutes for BSC and finished with 11 saves.
Birmingham-Southern will stay in Georgetown on the campus of Southwestern for its next contest against Whittier on Saturday, Feb. 24.
