Big Second Quarter Pushes Panthers Past Colonels

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team won its first Southern Athletic Association contest of the season on Sunday afternoon, rolling past the Centre Colonels 14-7 at Krulak Stadium.

After giving up an early goal and being held scoreless in the first quarter, the Panthers bounced back and then took control of the match on offense. Birmingham-Southern scored nine goals in the second quarter to take a 9-3 lead at halftime.

The Panthers continued the goal-scoring in the second half, outscoring the Colonels 3-2 in the third and adding another two goals in the final 15 minutes to take the final 14-7 lead.

BSC was led by junior Peyton Taylor (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS), the team's leading scorer, who found the back of the net a season-high five times against the Colonels.

Freshman Carter Watkins (Charlotte, N.C./Adrey Kell HS) and sophomore Taylor Carson (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS) also made their mark on the game with three goals and two assists each.

Goalie Matt Quill (Fort Mill, S.C./Coker College) played most of the game for the Panthers, finishing the match with 15 saves.

Birmingham-Southern will return to Krulak for its final home game of the season on Sunday, March 25 against Rhodes. It will be Senior Day for the Panthers.
