BSC Drops Home Finale to Rhodes

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team dropped its final home game of the regular season to Rhodes on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Lynx 17-12.

With the loss, the Panthers drop to 7-3 overall and 1-2 in the Southern Athletic Association.

Junior Davis Thompson (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes HS) and senior Justin Dennis (Buford, Ga./McCallie School) led the Panthers on offense with four goals each. Thompson is BSC's co-leader in goals with 30. Junior Peyton Taylor (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS), who scored one goal on Sunday, also leads the team with 30 goals this year.

BSC played three goalies against Rhodes. Junior Alex Bates (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS), who played 30 minutes, finished with a team-high nine saves. Matt Quill (Fort Mill, S.C./Coker College), who got the start, picked up the loss moving him to 7-4.

Five BSC seniors were honored pre-match: Justin Dennis, Bearson Smith (Yuba City, Calif./Yuba City HS), Bayley Fazende (New Orleans, La./Brother Martin HS), Christian Englehart (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) and Keenan Hudsmith (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood HS).

Birmingham-Southern also honored the memory of student-athlete Ben Sinclair, who passed away in 2015. Ben's mother, Laura Fellman, was in attendance for the recognition. Ben Sinclair's No. 9 jersey has since been retired and the men's lacrosse team has established the Ben Sinclair Teammate of the Year Award in his honor.

Birmingham-Southern will travel to Augustana for its next match on Saturday, March 31.
