Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team dropped its home match to Aurora on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Spartans 14-10.
The Panthers got off to a slow start, trailing 6-2 after the first 15 minutes and went into the half down 8-4.
BSC fell further behind in the third period when Aurora opened up with two goals right after the break. However, Birmingham-Southern rebounded and cut the Spartan lead to 10-7 before the start of the final period.
The Spartans would not be denied, though, scoring four unanswered goals to start the fourth. Birmingham-Southern attempted a comeback late in the period, scoring three unanswered goals, but it was too little too late for the Panthers to close the gap.
Junior Davis Thompson (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes HS) led the Panther offense with three goals on 13 shots. Juniors Greg Wallace (Fairhope, Ala./Bayside Academy) and Peyton Taylor (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) had two goals apiece.
Goalie Matt Quill (Fort Mill, S.C./Coker College) got the loss but recorded 19 saves for BSC.
With the loss, Birmingham-Southern falls to 4-2 on the year. The Panthers will travel to Huntingdon for a rivalry game against the Hawks on Wednesday, March 7. Start time for the game is set for 6 p.m.
