BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's tennis team fended off Rhodes College for the 6-3 win Sunday to finish third in the Southern Athletic Association. BSC (10-8) concluded the regular season 4-3 in conference play.
Anthony Pellegrini (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville HS), Jacob Weinacker (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook HS), Jamie Bekaert (Johns Creek, Ga./Rivers Academy), and Charley Rowe (Gadsden, Ala./Westbrook Christian School) earned two wins each on the day. Pellegrini and Weinacker, who won at No. 1 doubles, finish the season 14-2 out of the top position in dual matches. The pair is ranked eighth in the region. Pellegrini won at No. 2 singles in three sets (6-2, 6-7, 7-5), but it was Weinacker's 7-6, 7-6 win at the No. 1 spot that secured the victory for the Panthers.
Bekaert and Rowe took their No. 3 doubles match 9-8 (7-2). Bekart then won at No. 3 singles (6-3, 1-6, 6-3), while Rowe took his No. 6 singles match 6-4, 6-7, 6-0.
The Panthers now prepare for the SAA Tournament, which runs April 20-22 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
