Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In a heartbreaker, the fourth-seeded Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team fell 12-11 to top seed Rhodes College in overtime of its Southern Athletic Association Tournament semifinal match.
After regulation, the Panthers and Lynx were tied at 11, but a Tyler Milwit goal with 1:25 left in the first sudden victory overtime won the game for Rhodes, eliminating Birmingham-Southern from the tournament.
BSC fell behind 2-0 after the first quarter but regrouped to tie the game 4-4 at the halftime break. In the third quarter, Rhodes jumped back on top to take a 9-6 lead in to the final period of play.
Down 11-9 with less than three minutes to go, BSC's Braden McCombs (Hoover, Ala./Hoover HS) and Davis Thompson (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes HS) scored two unanswered goals to tie the game 11-11.
Milwit took the first shot for Rhodes in overtime but it hit the post. BSC took over possession after the shot, but the Lynx forced a turnover on their half of the field and capitalized with Milwit's game-winner.
Sophomore attack Taylor Carson (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook HS) led the Panthers with three goals. McCombs, Peyton Taylor (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) and Justin Dennis (Buford, Ga./McCallie School) finished the game with two goals.
Goalie Matt Quill (Fort Mill, S.C./Coker College) recorded 15 saves.
Birmingham-Southern exits the SAA Tournament and ends its season with an overall record of 11-6.
