Hambleton Game-Winner Lifts BSC Over Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team defeated Southern Athletic Association rival Rhodes College 1-0 on the road Saturday afternoon to improve to 8-2-1 on the season.

A late goal by senior defender Luke Hambleton (Fort Walton Beach, Fla./Choctawhatchee HS), his fifth of the season, gave the Panthers the win and kept BSC flawless in conference play.

After more than an hour of scoreless soccer in Memphis, the captain Hambleton found the back of the net 87 minutes into the match for his second game-winner of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Galen Curry (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS) also played a massive role in the victory, keeping a clean sheet against the Lynx while recording a season-high 13 saves.

After the win, BSC is 2-0 in the conference and remains atop the SAA standings.

Birmingham-Southern returns home for its next match, another SAA matchup against the Berry Vikings on Friday, Oct. 5. Kickoff for the game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
