Box Score JACKSON, Miss. – The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team dropped its regular season finale 3-2 in double overtime at conference foe Millsaps College on Saturday.
A brace from Birmingham-Southern freshman Coleman Jennings (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) was not quite enough to push the Panthers over the top in the match, as the Majors found the golden goal in the second period of overtime.
After a Millsaps opener midway through the first half, Jennings equalized a few minutes later in the 28th minute to make it 1-1. The scenario would repeat itself in the second half of play, too, as Jennings scored his second goal of the game in the 86th minute, bringing the Panthers level after a Majors goal in the 62nd minute.
Jennings' goals were his eighth and ninth of the season. Will Gannaway (Decatur, Ala./Decatur HS) and Andrew Duffey (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) assisted on the two goals.
Knotted up at 2-2, the two sides were sent to extra time to determine the winner. After a scoreless first period of overtime, the home side hit the golden goal in the 108th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Kurt Moore (Euharlee, Ga./Darlington School) recorded one save in the loss.
With the defeat, Birmingham-Southern falls to 6-8-1 overall and 2-5-0 in the Southern Athletic Association. The Panthers will compete in the quarterfinal round of the SAA Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 2. Time and opponent will be announced at a later time.
