BSC Breaks to Top of League with 52-42 Win

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern football increased its win streak to four after fending off Austin College 52-42 Saturday in Southern Athletic Association action at Krulak Stadium.  BSC (6-2, 5-1 SAA) is now tied for first place in the conference with Berry College and Trinity University.

The Panthers seven touchdowns were the second most in program history.  And this win marked the second time under Head Coach Tony Joe White that BSC has put up over 50 points.

For the third consecutive game, Robert Shufford (McKenzie, Ala./McKenzie HS) ran for over 200 yards.  He averaged 8.1 yards per carry and scored three touchdowns en route to 250 yards on the ground.  Justin Robertson (McDonough, Ga./Eagles Landing HS) collected three touchdowns of his own in the win and averaged 8.0 yards per carry.  Their three touchdowns each tied them for the single-game rushing record.

Cole Marell (Bonifay, Fla./Holmes County HS) had a big day on the Hilltop.  He finished with 158 receiving yards and a touchdown.  His longest catch of the day was 51 yards.

Defensively, Myles Myers (Alpharetta, Ga./Johns Creek HS) and Garrett Stevens (Social Circle, Ga./Eastside HS) led the team.  Myers finished with a team-high nine tackles, six solo, with an interception and a half tackle for a loss of one yard.  Stevens had eight tackles, five solo, including 1.5 for a loss of a yard.

BSC hits the road next.  They travel to Texas to take on Trinity University on Saturday, Nov. 9.  Winner will hold onto first place in the league and their chance at a conference title.  Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
