Box Score MARSHALL, Texas – The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team grabbed its third win of the season on Sunday, defeating East Texas Baptist 3-2 in overtime.
The game was a tale of two halves with Birmingham-Southern taking a 2-0 lead into halftime, but surrendering the lead in the second half. Knotted up at 2-2 after 90 minutes, the Panthers and Tigers needed extra time to determine a winner, but it took just over two minutes for BSC to find the golden goal.
Senior forward Jackson Lynn (Homewood, Ala./Homewood HS) opened up the scoring with a goal in the 28th minute. It was followed up in the 36th minute by a goal from senior midfielder Ryan Hepp (Homewood, Ala./Homewood HS), giving BSC the 2-0 lead at the break.
The Tigers came back, however, in the final 45 minutes of regulation, scoring goals in the 52nd and 78th minutes.
Heading into the overtime period, the Panthers needed a golden goal to send them home the victors. In the 93rd minute, Bryan Arteaga (Homewood, Ala./Homewood HS) provided it. The game-winner was Arteaga's first career goal
BSC finished the game with 18 shots and 10 shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Kurt Moore (Euharlee, Ga./Darlington School) recorded five saves in the match.
With the win, BSC improves to 3-2-1 on the season. The Panthers will host Belhaven University on the Hilltop for their next match on Saturday, Sept. 21. The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m.
