Box Score COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Birmingham-Southern men's soccer team grabbed a 2-1 road win at MUW on Tuesday evening, improving to 4-3-1.
The Panthers scored a goal in each half to secure the victory, its third road win of 2019.
Sophomore midfielder Adrian Castro (Hoover, Ala./Spain Park HS) opened the scoring for BSC, finding the back of the net in the 38th minute. Castro's goal was assisted by freshman Alessandro Junior (Novo Horizonte, Sao Paulo, Brazil), who would add a contribution in the second half.
Up 1-0 at halftime, the Panthers added another goal 10 minutes out of the break. Junior, who assisted on BSC's first goal, capped the scoring for his team in the 57th minute. His goal, which was assisted by Christian Hernandez (Fort Payne, Ala./Fort Payne HS), was the first of his career.
MUW pulled a goal back in the 66th minute, but Birmingham-Southern was able to hold on for the remainder of regulation to take home the 2-1 victory.
BSC outshot MUW 22-6 in the game and had five corner kicks to MUW's three. Senior goalkeeper Kurt Moore (Euharlee, Ga./Darlington School) played all 90 minutes and ended the game with two saves.
The Panthers will travel to Hendrix for their Southern Athletic Association opener against the Warriors. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28.
