BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern track and field saw several personal records broken at the KMS Open. The Panthers also had 15 top three finishes.
Jazmin Norris (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) earned second in both the shot put and weight throw with personal record marks that were also the best on the teams this season. She threw 11.49m in shot put and 13.46m in weight throw. Jaida Bolden (Dacula, Ga./Archer HS) also earned second in her respective event. She cleared 1.40m, tying her season best mark, in the high jump. Alicia Willis (Ackworth, Ga./North Paulding HS) finished third in the event with a 1.30m mark.
On the men's side, Maurice Sutherland (Meridian, Miss./Northeast HS), Jordan Jones (Powder Springs, Ga./Hiram HS), and Brennan Wink (Ohatchee, Ala./Wallace State CC) earned win. Sutherland went a personal record 6.39m in the long jump to take first place. He also went a personal record 6.39m in the triple jump, placing second behind Jones who went 14.01m to win the event. And William Wideman (Marietta, Ga./Pope HS) rounded out the top three with a distance of 13.06m. Wink won the pole vault with a personal record and team best 3.20m.
BSC also went 2-3 in the shot put. Josh Tucker-Ellis (Birmingham, Ala./Ramsey HS) threw 11.80m to earn second and Jacob Kennedy (Pinson, Ala/Mortimer Jordan HS) tossed a personal record 11.14m to pick up third place. And Beck Wilkes (Winfield, Ala./Winfield HS) finished second in the mile in a personal record time of 4:36.98. The Panthers were very competitive in the relays, finishing second in both to NCAA Division I Clayton State. At 1:36.83, the 4x200m relay team of Elijah Shelley (Ashford, Ala./Northside Methodist Academy), Wink, Sutherland, and Reece Weaver (Fort Payne, Ala./Fort Payne HS) were 3.5 second behind the leader. In the 4x400m, Wideman, Weaver, Jordan, and Glen Humphrey (Birmingham, Ala./Oak Mountain HS) lost by just 1.53 seconds
