MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 3 Birmingham-Southern baseball team fell at Huntingdon College 10-5 on Wednesday night, dropping to 8-2 o the season.
After taking an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, BSC allowed seven runs in the bottom half of the second inning, ultimately proving to be an insurmountable deficit. Outside of the first inning, the Panthers scored runs in the fourth, fifth, and ninth innings but could not put together a comeback to beat the Hawks.
Starting pitcher Adam Richards (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla./South Walton HS) picked up the loss, pitching an inning and two-thirds before exiting. Five other Panther pitchers made appearances in relief.
Offensively, 'Southern was led by a 2-of-3 evening at the plate from first baseman Drew Love (Birmingham, Ala./Calhoun CC), who had an RBI and a run scored.
Birmingham-Southern will look to rebound from the loss in Memphis, Tenn., this weekend when the team opens Southern Athletic Association play against Rhodes Feb. 29 and March 1.
