ATLANTA, Ga. - Sophie Smith's goal in the 73rd minute lifted the Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team over Oglethorpe today (Oct. 17) to capture their first SAA win of the season.
BSC came out aggressive on offense recording six of their seven first half shots in the first 27 minutes of play. The Oglethorpe goalie held strong and died the opportunities for the Panthers. Birmingham-Southern had some great scoring chances just before half but again came up empty. BSC and Oglethorpe would go to halftime tied 0-0.
The Panthers continued to be aggressive on offense as they created chances to score. They were finally able to convert in the 78th minute of play.
Sophie Smith barried a goal with an assist from
Camryn Lampron.
The Panther defense held strong the rest of the game to pitch the shutout.
Ardis Haskell recorded one save on two shots faced.
