SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Panthers fell in their second straight regular season game to Covenant in their opening game of the Lou Varnell Classic hosted by The University of the South. BSC took an 11 point lead to halftime and then struggled to find the bottom of the net shooting 9-30 from the floor in the second half.
The Panthers started the game with a 12-2 run getting a bucket from five different players. Covenant fought their way back into the game and took the lead after going on a 13-0 run and taking a 15-12 lead. The teams went back and forth before Birmingham again went on a run, this time 13-4 to take a 11 point lead to halftime.
Coming out of half and with momentum on their side BSC kept maintaining their lead, floating between 10-12 points. As the second half went on the Scots started to each closer and eventually tied it up 64-64 with 3:30 to go. The very next basket was a three-pointer by Covenant and from there on out they would not lose the lead.
Each time BSC had a chance to tie or take the lead they could not. BSC fell just short and lost to Covenant 75-72.
