BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 18 Birmingham-Southern softball opened its 2021 Softball Classic with wins over Mount St. Joseph and Piedmont College Saturday. BSC (10-0) defeated Mount St. Joseph 3-2 in eight innings before taking down Piedmont College 3-1.
Morgan McGuire (Notasulga, Ala./Reeltown HS) and
Cassidy Dickson (Piedmont, S.C./Brashier Middle College Charter HS) led the Panthers at the plate. McGuire hit .400 with a double, RBI, and run scored. Dickson picked up two hits and scored twice.
Hailee Bryan (Lauren Hill, Fla./Paxton HS) and
Lauren Keplinger (Pinson, Ala./Wallace State CC) earned the wins. Bryan struck out a career and game-high 10 batters in 6.2 scoreless innings in the circle against Piedmont and picked up the save in the Mount St. Joseph game. Keplinger allowed only one run.
The Panthers close out the Classic tomorrow against Huntingdon College at 1 p.m. and then Belhaven University at 3 p.m.
