BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 18 Birmingham-Southern softball opened its 2021 season with a pair of wins over Wesleyan College Sunday afternoon. The Panthers (2-0) hit .400 as a team on the day, defeating Wesleyan 13-5 in five innings and 10-8.
Kailey Walters (Trussville, Ala./Hewitt-Trussville HS) led BSC offensively. She hit .800 going 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored.
Annie Clayton (Eufaula, Ala./Eufaula HS),
Saydee Keith (Corner, Ala./Corner HS), and
Morgan McGuire (Notasulga, Ala./Reeltown HS) had three hits each, respectively. Clayton was 3-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored. Keith it the Panthers first home run of the season and finished with a team-high four runs. McGuire scored three runs.
Clayton picked up the first win after throwing 3.1 innings.
Hailee Bryan (Lauren Hill, Fla./Paxton HS) struck out a team-high five batters en route to picking up the game two win.
The Panthers return to action this Saturday. They travel to take on Covenant in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
