BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 8 Birmingham-Southern baseball fell to Southern Athletic Association rival Rhodes College Saturday. Rhodes won 8-4 and 8-3 to open the four-game series.
Ian Hancock (Roswell, Ga./Pope HS) led the Panthers at the plate. He went 3-for-4 with one run and an RBI.
Andrew Dutton (Southside, Ala./Westbrook Christian) and
Luke DePiero (Atlanta, Ga./Walker HS) also earned three hits on the day.
Andy Hammond (Oxford, Ala./Oxford HS) and
Hanan Mauldin (Florence, Ala./Florence HS) received the losses. Hammond threw six innings and only gave up two earned runs. He also struck out a team-best nine batters and allowed only one walk for the 24 batters he faced.
The series concludes tomorrow with another doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
