BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's soccer team catapulted into second place of the Southern Athletic Association with its 4-3 double overtime win against Berry College Sunday.
After the Vikings went up 1-0 in the first minute of play, the BSC defense shut them down for the remainder of the first half.
Abby Branham (Cullman, Ala./Cullman HS) scored the first equalizer just after the break on a pass from
Abby Kay Choate (Tifton, Ga./Tift County HS). Berry regained the lead 10 minutes later, but Choate tied it up with a bomb of a shot from outside the box. Berry countered 86 seconds later to go up 3-2 and Choate responded with an equalizing header 18 seconds later to tie the game up with less than five minutes to play.
The teams went through a scoreless overtime before
Hannah Daoust (Mobile, Ala./McGill-Toolen Catholic HS) found the back of the net with a chipped shot over the keeper two minutes into the second overtime. It was her first goal of the season. Jones picked up the win after grabbing a match-high five saves over 102 minutes in the goal.
BSC (8-2-1, 3-1-1) now prepares for the conference tournament. The Panthers will take on Berry again in the quarterfinals this Friday in Danville, Ky.
