MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – Birmingham-Southern baseball lost a pair of heartbreakers Friday at Berry, falling by a score of 12-10 in the first game before a pitching duel saw the Panthers (21-12, 13-9 SAA) shut out in the nightcap, 1-0.
Luke DePiero (Atlanta, Ga./Walker School) was the top offensive threat for BSC on the day, logging five hits (the only Panther with a multi-hit game in both) while driving in four runs, scoring twice, and legging out a double.
Cole Steadman (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) was right behind him in terms of production, racking up four hits with two runs scored, a double, an RBI and swiped two bases.
Drew Love (Birmingham, Ala./Gardendale HS) launched the Panthers' lone homer of the afternoon, sailing a two-RBI shot over the fence to score Steadman.
Tristan Harvin shone brightest on the mound for Birmingham-Southern despite earning the loss in game two, going the full 6.0 innings while allowing just one run, one walk and four hits while striking out two. Three pitchers combined to toss five punch outs in game one with
Andy Hammond (Oxford, Ala./Oxford HS) and
John Paul Dobbs (Florence, Ala./Florence HS) sharing the day's high of two strikeouts with Harvin.
The Panthers will conclude the regular season Saturday in another doubleheader against the Vikings, first pitch scheduled for noon.
