BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- No. 9 Birmingham-Southern softball split a doubleheader with Millsaps College Saturday on Senior Day. Millsaps took game one in eight innings, 5-4, while the Panthers rolled in five innings in game two, 9-1, to clinch the SAA regular season championship. BSC (24-4, 12-2 SAA) out hit the Majors 22-14 and were a combined 22-for-53 (.415) at the plate for the day.
Morgan McGuire (Notasulga, Ala./Reeltown HS) led BSC at the plate hitting .750 on the day. She finished 3-for-4 with two walks and five runs scored.
Saydee Keith (Corner, Ala./Corner HS),
Madison Plunkett (Alabaster, Ala./Thompson HS),
Kaylyn Chapman (New Castle, Pa./Shenango HS) and
Kailey Walters (Trussville, Ala./Hewitt-Trussville HS) all finished with three hits each and a combined 11 RBI.
Lauren Keplinger (Pinson, Ala./Wallace State CC) earned the game two win, allowing one run on six hits with four strikeouts in five innings.
BSC recognized its three seniors, Keith, Keplinger and
Annie Clayton (Eufaula, Ala. , Eufaula HS) prior to the game.
Keith has earned Dean's List for the past four semesters and belonged to the SAA Academic Honor Roll. In 2019, she was named to the SAA All-Tournament team, led the league in the toughest to strike out category and was nationally ranked.
Keplinger has earned President's List, Dean's List and SAA Academic Honor Roll. Before coming to BSC, she was a part of the 2018 Alabama Junior College State Championship.
Clayton participates in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has been named SAA All-Conference, BSC Student-Athlete of the Week and SAA Player of the Week.
BSC concludes the series against the Majors tomorrow at noon.
