MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern volleyball team is becoming a regular participant in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Volleyball Championship match, making its sixth trip in the last seven seasons. The Panthers (9-2) swept Oglethorpe University (Ga.) by scores of 25-21, 25-21, and 25-18 to earn a date with host Berry College Vikings in the SAA Championship for the fourth consecutive season.
Two Panthers had double-doubles in the match. Alyssa Coats (Nolensville, Tenn./Nolensville HS) tied for the team lead with 11 kills and she added 10 digs and three blocks, and
Ansleigh Dailey (Daphne, Ala./Bayside Academy) dished out 42 assists with 11 digs.
Kennedy Dickens (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood HS) had 10 kills, an ace, and five total blocks for a team-best 14 points, and
Gigi Fields (Columbus, Miss./Heritage Academy) chipped in 11 kills as well.
With the cancelation of their regular season matches earlier this month, the Panthers will meet up with the Vikings (9-0) for the first time this season on Sunday. The Panthers are seeking their first SAA volleyball crown.
