BSC TAKES DOWN CENTRE IN THREE SETS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After falling to a strong conference foe in the previous weekend, the Panthers were looking to start for a victory over the Centre Colonels. Gigi Fields and Alyssa Coats led the team with kills at 10 each, and Leah Nielsen and  Kennedy Dickens both attributed three blocks each.

Set one started off with the Panthers taking the early lead at 7-2 over the Colonels. Birmingham-Southern kept their lead, but Centre was able to make up for lost time and decreased the BSC lead at 12-10. A kill from Kylie Wilhelmi started a four point run, followed by another four point run with another kill from Wilhelmi and one from Alyssa Coats, to push the Birmingham-Southern lead 20-11. Two back to back errors ended set one for the Colonels as the Panthers took it 25-15.

Centre had the first lead in set two, but it did not last them very long with kills from Alyssa Coats, Ainsley Schultz and Leah Nielsen pushed the Panthers into the lead. Birmingham-Southern held a close lead at 10-6 over the Colonels and were able to push it to an even further 13-9, thanks to back to back kills from Kylie Wilhelmi and Kennedy Dickens. A service error from the Colonels put the Panthers at point 20 and ending the set 25-17 with a kill from Kylie Wilhelmi

Set three proved to be more of a fight for the Panthers as the Colonels found their momentum. Birmingham-Southern looked like they were headed in the same direction as the first two sets with an early 6-2 lead and then holding on at 10-5. Centre found their fight at point 6 and took the next five out of six points to tie it up 11-11. Once again the Colonels and Panthers found themselves tied at 16-16, but the Panthers were not done with their fight and took the next 9 out of 11 points to end the match with a service ace from Abby Dunford
