ATLANTA, Ga. - The Panthers finished off the Emory Invitational against Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets. BSC had 11 total blocks as a team with
Leah Nielsen and Danielle Greene both having 6 block assists each.
Alyssa Coats led the team with 17 kills of her own and was named to the All-Tournament Team at the end of the weekend.
The Panthers fought hard in the first two sets, the first only falling by three points. The Yellow Jackets held the lead at 15-11 in the first before BSC found some momentum and took their own lead 18-17. Although they fought hard, the Panthers fell 25-22 in set one. Set two had a lot of back and forth play between the two teams, evenly matched for most of the set. The Yellow Jackets were able to go up on an 8 point lead at 18-10 that the Panthers were unable to bounce back from.
Set three was another close one but this time in favor of the Panthers. BSC held a lead at 12-9, a kill from Kylie Wilhelmi and a big block from
Kennedy Dickens and Danielle Greene put the Panthers up 15-11. The Yellow Jackets fought back to take a lead at 19-17 and BSC came back to make it 21-20. Keeping up their momentum, Birmingham-Southern was able to fight off the Yellow Jackets and took set three 25-23.
The fourth set started like the third with the Panthers holding another 12-9 lead over the Yellow Jackets. Falling behind at 13-12, an error, a big block and a kill gave the Panthers their lead back at 15-13. Randolph-Macon once again took back a lead at 19-17, but the Birmingham-Southern was not ready to give up and took the next eight straight points to end the set 25-19.
The fifth set started off as a back-and-forth battle between the Panthers and Yellow Jackets. With a close set at 10-9 in favor of the Yellow Jackets, the next six straight points went to Randolph-Macon, giving them match point and eventually taking the set 15-11.
