NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Birmingham-Southern men's swim and dive team competed against Loyola University New Orleans this past weekend (Oct. 28-29) and rebounded from a tough meet against national powerhouse, Emory University.
On day one of the event BSC claimed five first place finishes in nine events. Starting it off for the Panthers was the 400-yard medley relay team. Chris Rubin, Graham Simmon, Noah Prevost, and Jakob Icimsoy swam a time of 3:33.83 to earn first place and receive 11 points for their team. BSC also had a second team finish third. That team consisted of Noah Daniels, Aden Kraft, Noah Scoggins, and AJ Schwabe. They also earned two points for the Panthers.
In the men's 1000-yard freestyle Adam Jones, took home first place with a time of 10:20.67, earning nine points.
Joe Swing earned third place and
Charlie Fountain earned fourth both earning a couple of points for BSC.
In event 10 Noah Prevost earned nine points for his first place finish in the 100-yard butterfly. For the third time BSC placed two athletes inside the top 3. Noah Daniel swam a time of 54.66 and earned third place for BSC.
Birmingham-Southern would then finish first and second in the 100-yard backstroke.
Cameron Coffey almost made it a clean sweep for BSC, but finished fourth with a time of 58.20. In the 200-yard freestyle. BSC pulled off the clean sweep and earned the top six positions in a 14-man field.
On day two of the event is was more of the same for Birmingham-Southern. They again took first place in five events.
The day started with the 200-yard medley relay which BSC took first in. Chris Rubin, Connor McClain, Noah Prevost, AJ Schwabe swam a time of 1:38.18 earning 11 points for BSC. Rubin earned another nine points later in the day after taking first place in the 200-yard backstroke.
The Panthers then earned a clean sweep in the 500-yard freestyle. Jakob Icimsoy finished first,
Charlie Fountain finished second, and
Joe Swing finished third. The three combined to tally 16 points in total for the single event.
Gabe Warner earned a first place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.07, just edging out a Loyola swimmer by .06 seconds. The Panthers wrapped up the meet with a first place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. BSC finished with a time of 3:13.42 and another 11 points were added to their team score.
