BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - In their opening game of the 2022-23 season the Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team cruised to a 102-77 win over Pensacola Christian College. Four Panthers scored in double figures helping BSC secure the victory.
Through the first two media timeouts BSC and Pensacola Christian played a pretty even game with the Panthers not leading by more than three at any point. Prior to the under-12 media timeout BSC got it rolling extending their lead to 10 points. BSC went on a tear the rest of the half closing it out on a 34-19 run. The charge was led by
Jay Gillispie with seven points. The Panthers took a 55-30 lead into halftime.
Out of the half the Eagles fought hard but the first half lead was too much to overcome. PCC went shot for shot with Birmingham-Southern in the second half but a steady string of buckets kept the Panthers out front. Birmingham-Southern got up by as much as 28 before Pensacola Christian cut the lead to 18 after a 12-2 run. After a timeout by the Panthers they came out and ran away with the game.
BSC defeated the Eagles to start the season 1-0 with a 102-77 win.
