BSC EARNS FIRST PLACE FINISH AT WABASH INVITE

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – In their biggest meet of the season the Birmingham-Southern men's swim and dive team earned a first-place finish. Along with earning the top spot in the meet Connor McClain broke the BSC program record in the 50 free with a time of 20.75 in day two of the meet.
 
The men started strong in the 500-yard free event earning six of the top 10 positions including the top two spots. AJ Schwabe and Charlie Fountain earned a first and second place finish. Later in day one, Connor McClain earned a second-place finish in the 50-yard free event. McClain earned a time of 20.75 making it a new BSC program record for the event.
 
After the completion of day one BSC led the team scores with 501. The next closest team would have 350 points.
 
To start day two BSC came out and earned a third and fourth place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. Noah Daniels, Aden Kraft, Noah Prevost, and Jakob Icimsory finished with a time of 3:26.99 to land in third place. After the relay the teams went to the diving events.
 
In the diving events, Birmingham-Southern showed well garnering four of the top 6 spots. Avery Balch earned the top spot with a score of 462.15 in the 1-meter event. Following him was Garrett George in third place. Rounding out the top five was Justin Toth and Sam Tennell who earned fifth and sixth respectively.
 
Following the diving results, the Panthers had another second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. In the following event BSC finished second third and fourth in the 400-yard IM. Charlie Fountain, Jakob Icimsoy, and Adam Jones added onto the BSC lead with the finishes. Late on in day two AJ Schwabe earned another first-place finish in the 200-yard free.
 
At the end of day two the Panthers had extended their lead and led by more than 300 points.
 
The Panthers kept their foot on the gas and opened day three with a first-place finish in the 800-yard free relay. Birmingham-Southern carried that momentum over to the diving events.
 
Avery Balch and Garrett George finished first and second respectively in the 3-meter event, helping BSC keep up their dominance in the meet. They carried on the top three finishes, taking the top three spots in the 1650-yard free. Charlie Fountain, Adam Jones, and Joe Swing finished one, two, and three in the event.
 
The Panthers earned more top three finishes throughout day three and dominated the competition. BSC took the top spot in the final standings winning the event by more the 500 points.
 
Up next
The Panthers will head to Florida on Dec. 26 as they train for the remainder of their season.
