BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern baseball team recorded seven extra-base hits in their 11-3 win over North Park, en route to their third win in a row.
The Panthers struck first, following the first out of the inning the next three batters reached base to load them up.
Jack Fleming dug into the box and smashed a homerun to right field to bring in four runs. After Fleming's grand slam,
Ian Hancock stepped in and ripped another homerun to right field. The Panthers would lead 5-0 after the first inning.
The following inning the Vikings got a run back, and were looking to add more but
Carter Tyus danced out of trouble and would only allow a single run in the inning. The Vikings got back on the board in the third inning after scoring a single run and cutting into the Panther lead. After three full innings BSC led 5-2.
That would be as close as North Park would get as BSC extended their lead in the fourth and fifth innings. BSC plated one run in the fourth on an
Austin Gentry single, and scored three in the fifth. The first run came in after
Noah Best ripped a double to left field, late in the inning, Hancock tripled to bring home another, and
Wes Diamantis hit a sac fly to bring in the third run. After five innings the Panthers led 9-2.
BSC scored twice more in the seventh to put the game out of reach. North Park scratched across a run in the top half of the ninth but could not generate further offense, the Panthers won their third game in a row by a score of 11-3.
