BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern softball team kept their momentum going to earn the sweep on the weekend against Centre. The pitching for the Panthers stood out with a combined 22 strikeouts and only allowing 4 hits on the weekend.
Birmingham-Southern was the first on the board in the bottom of the second inning, when
Izzy Berkopec doubled down the right field line to score
Leah Wood. An RBI single from
Cassidy Dickson pushed the Panthers up 2-0 to end the second.
Hailee Bryan struck out back to back batters in the top of the third to keep Centre from capitalizing on any plays. Another RBI for
Izzy Berkopec, this time with a single, extended the Panthers to a 3-0 lead over the Colonels.
The Colonels were able to put up one run in the top of the fourth, putting the Panthers at a 3-1 lead.
Kailey Walters drew a bases loaded walk to score
Cassidy Dickson and
Jada Askew singled through the left side to score
Alyssa Fowler, making it 5-1 Birmingham-Southern. Keeping her momentum going,
Izzy Berkopec doubled to center field and brought in three more runs for the Panthers in the bottom of the fourth.
Hailee Bryan helped keep the Panthers in their lead with a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the fifth, allowing the team to run rule Centre when
Kaylyn Chapman scored in the bottom of the fifth to end it 9-1.
