JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern track and field team opened up their outdoor season this Friday (March 11) as they competed in the Gem of the Hills Classic hosted by Jacksonville State University.
Track
Monasia Taylor and
Jannah Moede finished fifth and sixth respectivley in the 100 meter dash to place in the top half of the event.
Kamryn Bendolph ran a great 400 meter dash finishing fifth with a time of 1:07.52.
On the men's side,
Jon Lewis ran well finishing fifth in the 100 meter dash and third in the 200 meter. BSC then took three of the top spots in the 400 meter with
Reece Weaver winning the event.
As the event entered its distance runs the Panthers carried that momentum.
Beck Wilkes won the 800 meter with
Griffin Riner finishing in second.
Field
Birmingham-Southern was equally as impressive in the field events.
William Wideman won the men's long jump with a jump length of 6.59 meters. BSC took three of the top four spots in the men's shot put. Leading the way was
Jacob Kennedy with a throw of 11.44 meters. Finishing just behind him was
Derrick Maddox and
Isaac Happel.
Derrick Maddox then went on to win the men's discuss with a throw length of 35.47 meters.

Birmingham-Southern will travel to Montevallo, Ala. next weekend as they participate in the Falcon Invite hosted by the University of Montevallo.
