MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern men's and women's track and field team had a good showing at the Falcon Invite hosted by the University of Montevallo. The Panthers won a few events and finished in the top half of both the men's and women's teams.
Track
Jailah Loving had a great showing in the women's 100 meter hurdles, placing second with a time of 15.72 seconds and adding eight points to the Panthers team total. Loving also placed in the top 10 of the women's 200 meter dash. She placed ninth.
Kamryn Bendolph placed fourth in the women's 400 meter dash, recording a time of 1:00.01.
On the men's side the Panthers had three athletes finish in the top 11 of the men's 400 meter dash.
Reece Weaver won the event,
William Wideman finished sixth and
Griffin Riner finished 11th. Weaver won the event with a time of 49.68. Riner also finished in the top 10 of the men's 800 meter run. Riner finished in eighth place with a time of 2:01.03.
Beck Wilkes came out and won the men's 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:18.29.
Field
Alicia Willis competed in the women's shot put and placed eighth with a throw of 10.14 meters. BSC had two Panthers finish inside the top 10 of the women's javelin throw.
Mallie Taylor won the event with a throw of 33.50 meters. Alicia Wills finished ninth in the event.
The men field athletes were very impressive with a lot of top 10 finishers. In the hammer throw
Jacob Kennedy and
Andrew Smith placed seventh and eighth respectively. Kennedy also placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.39 meters.
Derrick Maddox finished ninth in the event with a throw of 11.36 meters. In the men's long jump BSC again had three athletes place inside the top 11 of the event.
Jordan Jones won the event with a jump of 7.11 meters,
Maurice Sutherland placed seventh, and
William Wideman placed 11th. Jones and Sutherland finished inside the top five of the triple jump as well.
The most impressive showing came in the men's discus throw as four athletes ranked inside the top 10 of the event. Maddox led the way finishing in fourth with a throw of 35.33 meters.
Isaac Happel, Brandon Armstrong, and
Orion Brogdon each finished seventh, eighth, and ninth respectively. Brogdon rounded out the competition with a fourth place finish in the javelin throw.
