PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Birmingham-Southern baseball team wrapped up their 2022 spring trip a perfect 3-0 after defeating Carroll University 12-1 on Monday, March 21. The Panthers put up double digit runs in each game in Pensacola.
BSC struck first in the top of the first inning after as
Ian Hancock hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in
Andrew Dutton. After a 1-2-3 first inning by
Oliver Livingston the Panthers scratched across another run in the second. The speedy
Will Lantis singled to start the inning and later advanced to second on a ground out. He later stole third base and came home to score on the play after a throwing error by the catcher.
A scoreless third inning followed for both teams but Birmingham-Southern added on to their lead in the fourth. An
Austin Gentry triple scored the first one with the other two runs coming in via sacrifice fly. Livingston pitched another 1-2-3 inning in the bottom half of the inning and after four full innings of play BSC led 5-0.
Following a scoreless fifth inning BSC exploded for seven runs in the sixth to take a commanding 12-0 lead. BSC plated seven runs on six hits in the inning. Carroll pushed across one run in the bottom of the inning but that is all they would get.
Jack Stephens and
Davis Williams came out of the bullpen to combine for two innings, two strikeouts and three hits, helping the Panthers secure their 15th victory of the season.
