PANTHERS EXPLODE FOR 19 RUNS IN MIDWEEK CLASH

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern baseball team exploded for 19 runs as they defeated Emory University 19-8 in a midweek matchup. BSC was led by Brian Williams and Will Lantis who went a combined 7-for-10 with five RBIs and seven stolen bases.

Both teams got on the board early as Emory scored one in the top of the first. BSC followed that up scoring two to take a 2-1 lead after the first inning. Neither team scored in the second but the third inning was filled with a lot of scoring. Emory added one of their own to tie the game. That did not stop the Panthers as they erupted for seven runs of their own.

Five of the Panthers eight hits in the third inning were extra-base hits. Jack Fleming hit his fifth home run of the season to drive in three runs in the inning. Noah Best and Ian Hancock each doubled in a run as well. Following the Panthers big inning Emory had their own.

In the fifth inning the Eagles cut the Panther lead to 9-7 after a five run inning. Robby Wacker had the big hit of the inning with a grand slam that brought in four of the five runs. Again BSC would respond with a three spot of their own to get a few back. Cole Steadman drove in all three with a homerun to center field.

Birmingham-Southern added three runs each of the next two innings to add to their lead and ultimately take a 18-8 lead after the seventh inning. The Panthers added one run in the eight before closing it out in the top of the ninth to secure their 11th victory of the season.
