Birmingham, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team took on the Lynx of Rhodes College for the last game of the regular season. After winning the last three games on the road, the Panthers returned home and kept the momentum rolling by beating the Lynx 14-12.
Austin Johnson started the game off scoring the first goal in the first quarter.
Cameron Herd and Johnson would go on to score two more goals for the Panthers assisted by
Caden Buckner and
Carter McAlpin. Rhodes found a little momentum scoring a goal with a score of 3-1 at the end of the first. BSC came into the second quarter scoring three goals back-to-back giving them a 6-1 lead in the middle of the quarter. Rhodes answered back with two goals of their own, but Southern scored two more holding the lead with a score of 8-3 going into halftime.
The Lynx came into the second half looking to make a comeback scoring the first two goals of the third quarter.
Cade Marino,
Austin Johnson, and
Carter McAlpin would go on to score more goals for the Panthers. The third quarter continued to be a back-and-forth battle with the score 11-8 at the end of the third quarter. The Panthers started off slow in the fourth quarter letting the Lynx score four goals but
Reid Harrison's last goal with 22 seconds left in the game sealed the deal for the Panthers. BSC defeated Rhodes with a final score of 14-12.
Robert Marquet led the Panthers in goals scoring a total of four. Marquet added on five points and one assist.
Cade Marino was dominate on defense leading the Panthers in caused turnovers picking up four.
Will Johns had an excellent day in the faceoffs recording a total of six.
Luke Fajack picked up eight saves and was the winning goalie.
