A RUN-RULE TO SEND OFF THE SENIORS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern softball team put up a combined 13 runs in their doubleheader against the Hendrix Warriors, putting up 11 in the first game to run-rule and 2 in the next. Hailee Bryan and Caroline Campbell pitched a combined 10 strikeouts and only allowed one run on the day. 

Game one
The Warriors were the first on the board, scoring their only run in the top of the first. The Panthers followed it back with a two RBI double from Kailey Walters that scored Alyssa Fowler and Morgan McGuire, in the bottom of the first. Hailee Bryan saw four batters in the top of the second and struck out three of them, she then saw a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the third. The bottom of the third brought three more runs on four hits for the Panthers. Jada Askew homered down the left field line to score Kailey Walters and extend the Panthers lead to 4-1. Sam Hilyer was next with an RBI double to left center that brought in Piper Lowery, to end the inning with a 5-1 lead for BSC.

Adding to their momentum, Birmingham-Southern put up an incredible bottom of the fourth inning adding six runs on five hits. Leah Wood was the first to bring in runs with a single through the left side to bring in Alyssa Fowler and Morgan McGuire. Izzy Berkopec singles up the middle to score Kailey Walters and push the Panthers lead to 8-1 over the Warriors. Kaylyn Chapman drew a bases loaded walk to score Leah Wood and bring in the 9th run for BSC. To finish off the inning, Katie Wood singled to right center for two RBIs to make it 11-1. The top of the fifth brought another 1-2-3 inning for Bryan and kept the Panthers safe in their run-rule to end the game after 5 innings.

Game two
Caroline Campbell and the Birmingham-Southern defensive play got things started in the second game with a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first and a strikeout. Campbell saw another three batters in the top of the second, allowing one hit but eventually getting the runner out on a double play. Campbell finished off the inning with a strikeout. The Panthers did not see any runs until the bottom of the sixth. Kailey Walters was up to bat when two errors from the Warriors allowed two runs to score for the Panthers. Morgan McGuire scored on the fielders choice for Kailey Walters and Alyssa Fowler was able to drive home after a throwing error from the second baseman. Hendrix tried to come back in the top of the seventh with two hits and two on base, but the Caroline Campbell and the Panther defense finished it off, for a 2-0 victory to end the day. 

The Panthers celebrated their seniors after the doubleheader with gifts and readings of all their accolades while at Birmingham-Southern. The seniors got sent off with smiles, big hugs and two more wins added to their record.
